When constructing a 10-acre deer exclosure out of five-foot wire fencing stacked two rolls high, Cascade River State Park looked for a safe alternative to lifting large rolls of wire by hand onto ladders and wiring them to wooden and metal posts.
Approach:
The park devised a plan for and built an attachment tool for the park’s tractor fork that could be used to unroll wire at either ground level or five feet above ground.
Outcome:
Painted yellow for greater visibility, the roller saved both time and energy when the exclosure was being finished in the spring of 2006. With only two people required for operation (one person driving the tractor and another on a ladder stapling the wire required), the roller proved itself to be a successful addition to the park’s tool selection.
